Song Zhiping Attended Annual Meeting of Global Compact Network China

On 28 November, 2012, a Beijing-based UN Global Compact Network—Annual Meeting of Global Compact Network China took the subject of “leading and practice—sustainable development of Chinese enterprises under new situation” by exchange of excellent experiences in sustainable development, studying and analyzing challenges and strategies in sustainable development of enterprises under new situation. About 300 participants composed of Chinese and foreign officers, representatives of associations, academic agencies, UN and other countries institutions in China attended the meeting.
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s written address emphasized that incorporation of enterprises into Global Compact Network China would not only promote public cooperation, made enterprises more strong and competitive but also contributed to the construction of fair and sustainable world. Director-General of UN Global Compact Organization George Cole, Vice Chairman of the 10th CPPCC National Committee and President of China Enterprise Confederation Wang Zhongyu, Deputy Director of State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council Shao Ning attended the meeting. Chairman on duty of Global Compact Network China Fu Chengyu made a keynote speech about “sustainable development road for Chinese network members during new period”.
As a business representative, Song Zhiping introduced experience and practice in sustainable development of the group. He indicated that China National Building Materials Group Corporation (CNBM) blended sustainable development concept into business operation, based on core concept of “making best use of resources to serve construction”, the group tried best to realize “harmonious coexistence with nature, society, competitors and employees” and form into building materials industrial-characteristics sustainable business mode. The group paid great attention to environmental improvement, tried to realize harmonious relations between the industry and the nature to reduce pollutants emissions by combining front-end prevention with end treatment. By actively researching and developing energy-saving and environmental protection facilities and products, the group provided efficient environmental protective manufacturing process and technology to comprehensively serve for enterprises’ energy-saving and emission-reduction. With regard to high efficient resources utilization and minimum consumptions in building materials products, the group replaced backward production capability, carried out process upgrading and technical innovation, minimized consumptions of unit raw materials and fuel. Meanwhile, CNBM led upstream and downstream partners to fulfill their own social responsibilities on the premise of completing own social obligations, which improved social responsibility management level and sustainable development of the whole industry.
UN Global Compact is the current largest, highest level and most widely influential proposal in business social responsibility and sustainable development all around the world; it is an important platform for enterprises to study and exchange sustainable development as well as carry out fine social responsibility practice.
